A 62-year-old female with recurrent parotid duct obstruction was evaluated for a thyroid nodule incidentally discovered on a CT scan of the neck. She denied a history of goiter or masses in and around the lower neck and denied symptoms of hypoor hyperthyroidism or previous treatment of thyroid disorders. On examination, she was a mildly obese woman who was clinically euthyroid. A 2-cm mobile nodule was palpable in the middle portion of the right lobe, and there was no suspicious cervical adenopathy on either side of the neck. Routine thyroid function tests were normal; on an ultrasonogram, the thyroid was homogeneous in echogenicity, and the overall vascularity was normal. The right lobe measured 3.8 1.8 1.7 cm and the left, 3.2 1.2 1.1 cm. ...
