Saturday Meeting-central was the Moscone Center located in the SOMA near the MOMA. That is to say, it was located in the increasingly hip section of San Francisco known as the South-ofMarket area, near the Museum of Modern Art. The Moscone is an enormous block-long, halfburied against a hill, triple-decker concrete bunker kind of a building whose tall and all glass face fronts the whole length of the street. If it was much smaller and in Kansas, youd call it a sod house. Today was the first day of the 91 st annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Researchthe worlds most important meeting of researchers devoted to the underlying science of cancer. The results of a meeting like this which is aimed more towards the basic science of cancer, stands in contrast to, for example, the orientation of the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, which is geared more at clinical practice and outcomes. It will be a challenge to sort through the approximately 6,000 presentations given over the next five days which are oriented to all cancers, to try and identify those whose results are referent to pancreatic cancer.
