Pancreas cancer affects 32,800 people in the United States every year. That is a
relatively small number compared to some other cancers (for example, doctors
diagnose 170,000 new lung cancers every year), but pancreas cancer has a higher
mortality rate than other cancers.
As public awareness of this difficult cancer increases, so do opportunities for
increasing our knowledge. More funding for pancreas cancer research is available
now than just a few years ago. More scientists and doctors study pancreas cancer.
Huntsman Cancer Institute's Pancreas Cancer Program encourages researchers from
many disciplines to collaborate and learn even more about prevention, screening,
and treatment of the disease.
During November, various activities have been planned around the nation to help
promote pancreas cancer awareness. House Resolution 745 recently designated
November as National Pancreas Awareness Month. Contact your Congressional
representatives and voice your concerns about government funding for pancreas
cancer research. ...
