Colon cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women. But the great news is that colon testing can save your life and even prevent colon cancer. Everyone 50 or older should have regular colon testing. The tests can keep you from getting colon cancer! Testing can find non-cancerous colon polyps when they can be easily removed. Polyps are small growths that may turn into cancer if not removed. Testing can find colon cancer early when it can be easily cured. People with a personal history of polyps, colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or a family history of colon cancer or polyps are at higher risk for colon cancer. They may need to start being tested before age 50 and have the tests done more often. A family history of other cancers (breast, ovarian, or uterine) may also raise ones risk for colon cancer.
