Pagetâ s disease of bone is characterized by an anarchic bone remodeling, associated with morphological and functional abnormalities of osteoclasts. Pagetâ s disease, as the condition came to be known, is the second most common bone disorder (after osteoporosis) in elderly persons in the Western world. Pagetâ s disease is rare in India, China and Scandinavia, but common in specifically England, Western Europe, and the United States. Affecting more than one million people, the chronic bone disorder is marked by the malfunction of the bodyâ s regular bone building process and may result in pain, deformities and fractures.
