Leukemia one of the most dreaded diagnosis. This malicious cancer of the white blood cells (leukocytes), strikes mostly at a more advanced age; nevertheless, certain forms are particularly frequent among children. Many different procedures are being used today in the early detection and diagnosis of blood cancer as its commonly known, but all of them are comparatively complex and time consuming to perform requiring multiple assays and producing results that often are not universally standardized. Ultimately, this results in high costs. Yet, every day counts when diagnosing some of the acute leukemia types. Microarrays currently under development could potentially shorten current diagnostic processes and increase objectivity and reliability of results significantly while also expediting results at lower prices. Leukemia (white blood in Greek) is a cancer that alters the blood-building process (hematopoieses) originating from stem cells of the bone marrow. The causes are still somewhat unknown, yet its impact is devastating as the diseased leukocytes no longer adequately perform vital bodily functions in controlling the bodys own defense against diseases.
