The Basics Complete on-line presentation 1 CEU Credit AHF®, INC. provides a full line of clotting medications, supplies, and ancillaries to families who are on home infusion programs. Bleeding disorders are our only business and we have provided uninterrupted services to families and medical institutions since 1989. One CEU (Continuing Education Unit) is available from CMSA (the Case Managers Society of America) for this course. To obtain credit, you will need to read the attached course presentation and complete the CEU evaluation. Presentation and discussion include: What is Hemophilia? Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder that affects about 17,000 people in the U.S. Most of them are males. A person will have Hemophilia for his or her entire life. Hemophilia is caused by an error in a persons genetic code passed on from birth mother to infant. However, approximately 30% of cases are the result of a genetic mutation in the fetus. Hemophilia is characterized by a low level or near total deficiency of one or another of the clotting factors needed to stop bleeding. Without these clotting factors, the body cannot take the needed steps to form a stable clot. The frequency of bleeds is very individualized and dependent on many factors such as activity level, body strength/build, severity of Hemophilia and/or frailty of joints. Stress, heavy labor, sports activities, and even walking on uneven surfaces like beach sand can cause bleeds. Bleeds also occur spontaneously with no identified cause.
